Ambrotypes are direct positive images. This is the same technique as the tintype, but the image is on glass instead of metal plates.

Clear glass ambrotypes have the added benefit- they can be printed onto photographic paper, and many copies can be made from the same glass ambrotype image.

My clear glass ambrotypes are 1/2 plate (4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches)

I can, however, make 8x10 inch enlargements from each ambrotype image.

The original clear glass ambrotype can be displayed in a frame, by adding black felt or paper backing to show off the image. Copies of the ambrotype can be made available so that everyone in your unit can have their own copy of the image.
